An insight into the growth of the animation and digital illustration business in Ireland.

Nollaig Crombie

Nollaig Crombie’s key interests are in illustration, layouts, backgrounds and storyboardsThe success of her graduate film at Annecy in 1985 led to an invitation to work with Don Bluth in LA on the first Spielberg animated film – An American Tail. It became the highest grossing animated film to that date. Nollaig returned to Dublin two years later with the US crew to set up the Irish base for Sullivan Bluth. She was key assistant to Director John Pomeroy on a further nine full length features, working entirely in the classical hand drawn style. Along side feature productions, Nollaig has credits on associated Interactive Games and commercial shorts produced for Universal, Warner Bros, Disney Interactive, Fox and Amblin Ent. Nollaig has been Head of Design & Creative Media at LYIT for 10 yrs and is a regular panel member on various Animation programmes and fora.

Marianne Mc Sharry (Boulder Media)

Marianne holds a Batchelor’s degree in Media Arts from St. Mary’s University (UK), a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the National College of Ireland and more recently Marianne qualified as an Executive Business and Life Coach from Positive Success Group. Overall Marianne has five years’ experience working within HR and has extensive experience in Recruitment, Training, Mentoring, performance management and employee relations. She is currently employed as Recruitment and Training Manager for Boulder Media. Boulder Media was established in 2000 by Creative Director Robert Cullen and was acquired by Hasbro in July 2016. They are currently working on six 2D TV Series and one CG Feature Film which is the first to be made in Ireland.

Some of Boulder’s shows include Danger Mouse, THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL, Go Jetters and Wonder of Yonder.

Mark Cullen

Mark Cullen is a ‘digital experimentalist’ who remains an avid traditional media enthusiast.  He has worked in classical animation, advertising, multimedia and games development sectors. Currently he works as a Lecturer at LYIT and University of Ulster. His teaching areas include 2D and 3D animation, film production, special effects and illustration.
